Dear Friends,
Please find a list of excursions that are offered for WRTC participants and guests. We
would like to obtain an advance information to know what are your wishes in spending some
time sightseeing. Please send preliminary notes about excursions that are of interest to
you to Borut.Farcnik@s5.net or scc@bit.si
EXCURSIONS
1. Thursday, 6th July 2000: THE MUSEUM TRAIN
The departure from the train station in Bled at 9.30 a.m. and the arrival to Most na Soci
at 10.25 a.m.. From there a bus-ride and sightseeing according to the program (it includes
the tourist guidance), a boat-ride with Lucija boat on the Soca lake (about 1 hour) and
the lunch at the restaurant Tolminska korita. The return with the bus to train station and
the departure from there by train at 4.30 p.m.. The arrival to Bled at 5.25 p.m..
Price/person: 8900 SIT (about $ 40)
In the case of high interest (200 people) in the trip a lower price of 6100 SIT (about $
27) is offered by Slovenija turist.
2. Friday, 7th July 2000: PORTOROZ - PIRAN (Mediteranien sea)
The departure from the hotel at 8.00 a.m., driving in the Ljubljana direction, short stop
in Postojna to freshen up, continuing the drive to
Portoroz. The arrival there at 10.30 a.m.. The time until 1.00 p.m. possibly 2.00
p.m.) is free to spend according to individual wishes
(swimming in the sea, optional boat-trip to saltworks (Soline) or to Piran). At 1.00 p.m.
a bus-ride to Piran, where visiting the old town and walking to old church. The departure
from Piran at 4.30 p.m, passing Izola and Koper back to Bled.
Price/person: 10,000 SIT (about $ 45).
3. Sathurday, 8th July 2000: PREKMURJE
A bus- ride to Ptujska gora (Mountain Ptuj) where visiting the old church, continuing to
Ptuj where visiting the castle, driving on the so-called "wine road" to
Jeruzalem, visit of the wine cellar and the lunch. The returning includes visiting Filavci
(potter's trade), Bugojna (church) and coming back to Bled. The price includes:
transportation, entrance fees, lunch
Price/person: 6500 SIT (about $ 29)
4. Sunday, 9th July 2000: KROPA - RADOVLJICA
On this excursion we shall visit the small town of Kropa, which has been famous for its
centuries old tradition in ironmongery. By the river
Kroparica the locals founded the basis for todays ironmongeryy in the 16th century. The
products of Kropa are famous throughout the world and in the museum we may admire their
unique products and the process of ironmongery. There is the possibility of buying
souvenirs and the products of Kropa ironmongers. On the return journey we stop in old town
Radovljica and visit the unique apicultural museum with its etnographic colection of bee
hives.
Price/person: 3500 SIT (about $ 16)
5. VENICE - VENEZIA
We are offering you a unique opportunity to visit the city of thousand bridges and canals
in one day, and admire during five hours the marvelous
Venetian architecture. Through the valley of Sava River and the Italian Val Canale between
the Carnia Mountains and Julian Alps, then pass Udine, we arrive to Venice. From Piazzale
Roma (or Tronchetto) we get to St. Mark's Square by vaporetto (water - bus) along canals.
The tour of the palaces of interest begins on St. Mark's square. There are Doge's palace,
the Bridge of Sighs and numerous cathedrals. After a short pause we go to see the famous
Murano glass - works. During the afternoon we can admire the narrow streets with their
numerous canals and
bridges, and we can hardly believe that city has been standing for centuries in a lagoon
on wooden stilts pushed into the ground of the shallow water. Full of these new
impressions the vaporetto brings us on the Canal Grande, back to the bus which brings us
to Slovenia in the late evening.

6. POKLJUKA - VINTGAR
During this afternoon excursion we shall view the natural beauty of the Vintgar gorge,
which has been sculptured by the River Radovna into a real canyon through the aeons and is
accessible by bridges and galleries surrounded by numerous rapids and waterfalls. Along
the ski centre Zatrnik we ascend to the high plateau of Pokljuka, famous its firtree
forests. Visit the memorial park of the Prešeren batallion, situated in the middle of the
extensive forests. And in a pleasant inn taste a Pokljuka snack. We may take advantage of
the free time for admiring the flora, such as sweet smelling strawberries, blueberries and
mushrooms.

7. Additional Saturday offer for Ladies: LJUBLJANA
Transportation from Bled to Ljubljana at 09.00 a.m. with modern bus; sightseeing of old
town center, the old castle and other cultural monuments. Follows transport through the
center of city to shopping center (called BTC) with presentation of modern history. Visit
in Shopping center (about 3 hours). Back to Bled at 4 p.m.
