THE INTERNATIONAL AMATEUR RADIO UNION REGION 1
HIGH SPEED TELEGRAPHY WORKING GROUP (HST-WG)

HST is a kind of HAM RADIO activity, recognised by the IARU and pursued by CW enthusiasts who like telegraphy and are ready to develop their skills in this area.
There are national and international championships in which competitors can participate. In the past HST competitions took part mainly in eastern European countries, but recently it has gone through on positive changes that hopefully promote the growing of its popularity all over the world.

The competition consists of three main tests:

The traditional transmitting and receiving of 5-character groups and the radioamateur practising test (RPT).
RPT consists of two programs. The RUFZ, which is a ,callsign receiving' program, where the task is to receiving callsigns and type them back to the computer. The other one is PED, the ,pile up trainer', which is a contest and pile up simulator. Both programs are popular among HAM's.

HST is not only a competition for high skilled CW HAM's, but its programs can promote young people to become radioamateurs.
Traditional tests can help in preparing for CW exams. RUFZ is a good program to develop youngsters cw skills. It is very exciting to them getting new scores in RUFZ, meanwhile they progress gradually. PED produces a perfect contest situation, so it is a good device to practise for the real contests in the bands.
A popular HST can be important means to preserve the morse code for the future.
